The older
generation often feels there is a generation gap between them and the younger
generation in the field of education. It will continue to widen unless some
changes are adopted at the proper time. Given the speed and power of ICT for
change, growth innovation, it becomes critical that teachers understand the gap
that may be perceived between them and the new generation of learners.
Since the new
generations are expected to face a future professional challenge of a digital
world ahead of them, technology-supported skills need to be taught in schools
today, or else schools will become a white elephant. If schools fail to respond
to emergent changes and needs, new learners may lose appreciation of the
educational system, and drop out of school, as survey show an increasing
drop-out rate every year.
EXPERIENCE
During my first year in college onward, teachers are not
only using board talk-test technique depending on the subject or topic.
Instead, they used devices that could enhance the learning of the topic or
subject. That is, to get them involved in the fast changing technology. They
use it as a tool for easier and understandable discussion.
REFLECTION
Nowadays, fast
changing technology is unstoppable in society. And as citizens in society, we
have to adapt it. It must be taught in school also so that the young individual
will be guided upon using technology correctly. Not only by giving them
instructions, information, advantage and disadvantages, instead, letting them
explore, construct and experience so that they will be more knowledgeable and
skilled full.
APPLICATION
As a future
teacher, in order to bridge/connect the generation gap between my students in
terms of different culture of their past schools for example, I will always
give them a group activity. They will be mixed each other (students from
traditional school and students from advance school). Through these, they will
collaborate each other, sharing of ideas, and come up with good result.
