CONTENT

To understand the meaning of educational technology, it may be good to begin with the meaning of technology. The word “technology” comes from the Greek word “techne” which means craft or art. Based on the etymology, therefore, refers to the art or craft of responding to our educational needs.
Educational technology is a complex, integrated process involving people, procedures, ideas, devices and organization for analyzing problems and devising, implementing, evaluating and managing solutions to those problems, involved in all aspects learning.

                                                                TECHNOLOGY

Boon
Bane

Technology contributes much to the improvement of the teaching-learning process and to the humanization of life. It is indeed a blessing. But when not used properly, it becomes a detriment to instruction and human progress and development.
Technology is made for man and not man for technology. Technology is made for the teacher and not the teacher for technology. This means that technology is meant to serve man in all aspects of life including instruction. It is man, and in the context of the classroom, the teacher, who determines how technology ought to be used in order to reap the maximum benefits that come along with technology. Technology is in our hands. We can use it to build or destroy.

Instructional Objectives
The broad definition of educational technology encompasses systems or designs of instructions. Instruction begins with the definition of instructional objectives that consider the learner’s needs, interests and readiness. On the basis of these objectives, the teacher selects the appropriate teaching methods to be used and chooses also the appropriate learning experiences and material, equipment and facilities. The use all of this things must necessary assign an appropriate personnel to assist the teacher and defining the role of any personnel involved in the preparation, setting and returning of these learning resources. The teacher then implements planned instruction with the use of the selected teaching method, learning activities, and learning materials with the help of other personnel whose role has been defined by the teacher. After instruction, teacher evaluates the outcome of instruction. If the instructional objective was attained, teacher proceeds to the next lesson going through the same cycle. The focus of the instructional planning is the learner.

Cone of Experience

Next is the Cone of Experience. It is a visual model, a pictorial device that presents bands of experience arranged according to degree of abstraction. Let us expound on each of them starting with the most direct.
  •   Direct purposeful experiences – These are firs hand experiences which serves as the foundation of our learning.
  •  Contrived experiences – We make use of a representative models or mock ups of reality for practical reasons and so that we can make the real-life accessible to the student’s perceptions and understanding.
  •  Dramatized experiences – Participating in a reconstructed experience.
  • Demonstrations – It is a visualized explanation of an important fact, idea or process by the use of photographs, drawing, films, displays or guided motions.
  • Study trips – These are excursions, educational trips, and visits conducted to observe an event that is unavailable within the classroom.
  • Exhibits – These are displays to be seen by the spectators.
  • Television and motion pictures – These can reconstruct the reality of the past so effectively that we are made to feel we are there.
  • Still pictures, Recordings, Radio – These are visual and auditory devices which may be used by an individual or a group.
  • Visual symbols – These are no longer realistic reproduction of physical things for these are highly abstract representations.
  • Verbal symbols – They are not like the objects or ideas for which they stand. They usually do not contain visual clues to their meaning.

The next part is the application of what has been learned beyond what is written in the book. These are photo editing, rubistar, toondoo, creating short film and edmodo-the online activity.

EXPERIENCE
I learned lot of things from Educational Technology I. It really helps me to explore the essence of technology as a tool for educative process. I know already how to make rubric in a very easy way, faster and reliable using www.rubistar.com. It is my first time also to make comic strips using www.toondoo.com, then editing my picture from ordinary to cover girl of Cosmopolitan magazine using photoshop. And lastly, having online activity using www.edmodo.com.
These experiences were really amazing. It molds me to go beyond what has been written in the book. I really developed my initiative during the activity, as well as the skills and critical thinking.
I believe that what has been learned through action will retain in the long term memory. All of these will be very useful to my future carrier.

REFLECTION
Discussing Educational Technology I prior to Educational Technology II is very important. In this subject, we are taught the basic foundation of technology as an educational tool for learning centered approach. The methods, uses, purposes, roles, advantage and disadvantages about technology as a tool was also tackled for the awareness and knowledge we must acquire for the future carrier.
Technology as a tool for educative processes not only giving us more information but also helping us develops our skills, initiative, and critical thinking. This is to make sure that we as a future teacher will be very prepared in the field of teaching.

APPLICATION
Having an interactive teaching and learning depends on the skills and strategies that the teacher uses. If the topic needs technology as a tool for the learners to visualize, feel or even experience the content and the importance of the topic, then, I can do that such as using motion pictures, short film, audio visual, etc. But if the topic does not really needs technology, then, I can use models, mock ups, etc.as a tool for the learner to understand better rather than pure talking without demonstrating.

As a future teacher, what I have learned in the training field must be retained in mind and heart, because teaching with all your mind and heart is really different from teaching with mind alone.
